Wrong-way crash on I-35W shuts down toll lanes north of downtown Fort Worth

A drunken man early Monday drove in the wrong direction on Interstate 35W toll lanes north of downtown Fort Worth, hitting three vehicles, police said.

The crash about 2:15 a.m. prompted authorities to shut down the TEXpress lanes through morning rush hour. The crashed vehicles appeared to be removed by about 9 a.m.

Jorge Muza was driving north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35W when he struck the vehicles, including two semitrailer trucks, Fort Worth police said. The crash occurred near East Long Avenue.

The wrong-way driver’s vehicle stopped under one of the semis in the freeway’s southbound toll lanes.

Muza, 44, was extricated from his vehicle and taken to a hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to a police record.

One of the semitrailer-truck drivers was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said.

Beyond the semitrailer-trucks, the third vehicle that Muza struck is owned by the city of Fort Worth, police said.
