Man sets himself on fire in suicide attempt at Fort Worth Walmart, police say
A man was critically injured when he set himself on fire in a suicide attempt at a Walmart in far north Fort Worth on Tuesday night, police said.
Officers responded to the Walmart at 8520 N. Beach St. about 10:30 p.m. A 911 caller reported that the man covered himself in lighter fluid and set himself on fire in the parking lot, and then ran inside the store.
When officers arrived, the man was no longer on fire, a police spokesperson said. People inside the store reportedly helped to put out the flames.
The man had severe injuries and was taken to the Parkland Hospital burn unit in Dallas via CareFlite helicopter in critical condition, police said.
The Fort Worth Fire Department also responded to the store, which was closed for several hours during the investigation.
