A Fort Worth Fire Department captain died after a tragic accident resulting from a fall, the department said this week.

Capt. Daniel Cearley, 50, served the city for 28 years and was an exemplary firefighter and leader, the department said in a statement on social media.

Cearley served as the special events coordinator for the Fire Department.

“He dedicated countless hours, behind the scenes, ensuring that residents and guests at all of Fort Worth’s events were safe,” the statement said. “Captain Cearley’s legacy with the Fort Worth Fire Department will not soon be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time.”

Details about funeral services will be shared when they are made available, the department said.
