A man was hospitalized in critical condition after he was hit by a truck at a scrapyard in northwest Fort Worth on Thursday morning, police said.

About 9:50 a.m., Fort Worth officers were dispatched to the accident at 2600 Shamrock Ave., according to police. The address is the location of Gamtex Industries, a metal recycling business.

The man, who is in his 60s, is an employee and he bent over to pick up something behind a commercial truck, police said.

The driver of the truck did not realize an employee was behind him, police said. The driver began backing up and “ran him over,” a 911 caller reported.

The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
