Roaches found at volunteer center in latest Fort Worth health inspections
One Fort Worth kitchen was closed and a few others had issues with roaches in the latest round of city health inspections, according to the most recent inspection report.
The report compiled by the Star-Telegram contains data from July 20 through July 26 and 146 inspections.
Fort Worth’s health inspections function on a demerit system: When the total number of demerits is greater than 30, a food establishment must fix all of the worst problems immediately and fix the rest within 48 hours.
Volunteers of America, 2710 Ave. J, had a score of 20 and was closed because of a roach infestation, according to the report. The establishment is not a restaurant, but is a kitchen at a pre-release facility that works with people in the custody of the federal prison system. Facility deficiencies were contributing to the pest infestation, according to the report.
Two other locations had issues with roaches:
- K&K Food Mart, 6101 S. Hulen St., had a score of 24.
- Helados Samy’s, 4200 South Freeway, had a score of 11.
Two restaurants had high scores:
- Carniceria Y Taqueria Dos Hermanos, 8633 Camp Bowie West Blvd., had a score of 25.
- La Real Michoacana, 8641 Camp Bowie West Blvd., had a score of 25.
