Logan Cantrell was “the sweetest, kindhearted soul,” his aunt Michele Smith wrote in a GoFundMe posting.

Logan, 18, had told his aunt that he was going out on Sunday night and he would be back later. His last words were “the hardest words that you would ever hear,” Smith wrote.

Logan was fatally shot early Monday morning in the 7100 block of Avington Way, in south Fort Worth.

Smith said that her nephew was getting into his car to leave when he was apparently hit by a stray bullet from a fight happening at a house party a few houses down — the same party that 19-year-old shooting victim Emiliano Serna attended.

Logan was pronounced dead about 3 a.m. Monday from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. No arrests have been announced, and Fort Worth police said they did not have any updates on the double homicide investigation as of Friday.

“Logan didn’t deserve this at all,” Smith told the Star-Telegram.

Logan had been getting things together before he was shot. He had just gotten a car and a job, according to his aunt.

Logan had had a tough time the last few years, Smith wrote. His mom lost her job a few months ago, and his grandmother was struggling.

He had just gotten things together and gotten a car and a job, Smith wrote in the GoFundMe.

So many people will miss him, his aunt wrote. He hated seeing people upset, and he made everyone laugh with “his goofy comments or his crazy faces.”

“Our lives will never be the same again,” Smith wrote.

The least Smith could do was help her sister lay her son to rest, she said. “You would never think losing someone could hurt so much,” she wrote.

Smith created the GoFundMe on Tuesday to raise money for Logan’s memorial. On Friday, Smith wrote that the family was able to give him the memorial he deserved.

The family held a balloon release to say goodbye to Logan on Saturday at Dutch Branch Park, Smith stated.
