Fort Worth’s 4 police chief finalists include interim chief, ex-Dallas chief
Fort Worth City Manager Jay Chapa announced four finalist candidates for the city’s next police chief on Tuesday morning.
Applications opened on May 4 and closed a month later. Mosaic Public Partners conducted a national search and received a total of 51 applications, according to a news release. Of the 51 applicants, nine were interviewed in the semi-finalist round and four were selected to move forward as finalists.
The finalists are:
Fort Worth Interim Chief Robert Alldredge Jr.
Former Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia
Former Dallas Police Deputy Chief Vernon Hale
LAPD Deputy Chief Emada Tingirides
“I’m very pleased with the diversity, depth, and caliber of candidates who expressed interest in this important role,” Chapa said. “The strength of the finalist pool reflects the high regard for the Fort Worth Police Department, and our next chief must uphold — and build upon — that standard of excellence as we move forward.”
“The slate of candidates really reflects the future of our city, our department and they can lead us in the right direction,” Mayor Mattie Parker said while speaking to reporters Monday night ahead of the candidate announcement.
Parker praised the work of former police chief Neil Noakes, and said the city is in great hands now with current interim chief Alldredge, but that the list reflects where the city wants the department to go.
The public will have an opportunity to meet the finalists at a forum scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 14 at the new city hall building at 100 Fort Worth Trail. The forum will also be streamed online for residents who can’t make it downtown.
Residents will have an opportunity to submit questions online ahead of the forum; however, the online comment period will close Aug. 8.
Chapa is expected to select the sole finalist after the community forum with a goal of having the final pick by Labor Day, said city intergovernmental relations manager Bethany Warner in an email to the Star-Telegram.
The council will vote on the selection soon after, but the exact date is yet to be determined, she said.
Alldredge was named interim chief in May after serving with the department for nearly 26 years. During his time with the department, he oversaw budgeting and initiatives around recruiting and the city’s homeless outreach program.
Garcia, the former Dallas police chief, has served an assistant city manager in Austin since November 2024. During his time in Dallas, he implemented a use-of-force dashboard to increase transparency in the department.
Hale spent most of his career as an assistant chief in Dallas before leaving in 2017 to take the top job in Galveston. Most recently, he has served as assistant chief of police for Prince George’s County, Maryland, where he has overseen investigations, forensics, media relations and budgeting.
Tingirides has spent 30 years of her career with the Los Angeles Police Department, currently overseeing the department’s operations in that city’s downtown. This includes responses to protests and large-scale celebrations. She’s also received recognition for work to bridge the gap between law enforcement and community members including helping to create the LAPD’s Community Safety Partnerships program.
