The southbound lanes of Interstate 35W in south Fort Worth are now open after a multi-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler and several injuries shut down the freeway for several hours Wednesday afternoon, police said.

At least 15 police units were dispatched to I-35W near E. Felix Street starting shortly before 12 p.m. An 18-wheeler and a pickup truck crashed, according to the 911 call sheet.

Multiple people were injured in the accident. One person was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and another person in serious condition, according to MedStar. Several other people received minor injuries. A total of five ambulances responded to the scene.

A heavy-duty wrecker was called to remove the 18-wheeler, police said. At least three vehicles, including the semi, were involved.

Police posted on social media about the crash shortly before 2 p.m. and encouraged drivers to look for alternate routes.

The shoulder and three lanes of I-35W were blocked due to the crash, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. TxDOT cameras showed several police SUVs blocking southbound lanes of the freeway near Berry Street.

All southbound lanes were clear by 4:20 p.m., according to police.
