Accidental shooting injures child during gun cleaning, Fort Worth police say

A child was injured in Fort Worth on Sunday, June 8, when a family member accidentally fired a gun while cleaning it, police said.

Officers responded to the shooting about 7 p.m. in the 3600 block of Ada Avenue, in east Fort Worth.

When officers arrived at the scene, the shooting victim had already been taken to the hospital by a family member, police said.

A relative was cleaning the gun when it misfired and a ricochet hit the child, the family told police.

The child is in stable condition and expected to recover, police said.

Police said detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the accidental shooting. No criminal charges have been filed.
