1 killed in crash that closed lanes of I-20 near Loop 820 in south Fort Worth
A fatal crash on eastbound Interstate 20 near Loop 820 closed lanes in south Fort Worth for several hours Monday afternoon, police said.
Officers were dispatched to the 5500 block of the freeway, near Forest Hill Drive, about 1:30 p.m.
When officers arrived at the accident scene, they found a person who was hit by a vehicle, police said. The person was pronounced dead on scene by medical personnel, police said.
Police said the Traffic Investigation Unit was on scene to investigate the circumstances and cause of the crash. A 911 caller reported that the crash involved a motorcycle, but it’s unclear whether the motorcyclist is the person who was killed.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the person who died after the next of kin is notified.
All eastbound lanes of I-20 near East Loop I-820 were closed, according to a social media post by the Texas Department of Transportation about 2 p.m. Monday, May 12. TxDOT told drivers to expect delays on I-20 and seek alternate routes.
All lanes had reopened about 4:40 p.m., according to TxDOT.
