22-year-old driver dies in Arlington crash on I-30 Monday morning, cops say
A man was killed after a crash with an 18-wheeler on Interstate 30 in Arlington on Monday, May 12, police said.
Officers responded to the 2600 block of East I-30 about 2:20 a.m., after receiving reports of a major crash involving a passenger car and an 18-wheeler, Arlington police said in a news release.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates that a red Hyundai Elantra was stopped in the center lane of travel without its lights on for an unknown reason.
The driver of a semi truck traveling in the same direction was unable to take “evasive action,” due to another vehicle in an adjacent lane and was unable to stop in time, resulting in a collision with the back of the Elantra, police said.
The driver of the Elantra, a 22-year-old man, had fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Officers found open containers of alcoholic beverages inside the Elantra, police said.
The driver of the tractor-trailer remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. No charges are expected to be filed, police said
The eastbound lanes on I-30 were reduced to one lane of traffic for several hours while officers investigated the crash and cleared the roadway, police said.
Arlington police said the investigation is ongoing.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the name of the man who died after his next of kin have been notified.
