A train struck a man on Tuesday afternoon near Fort Worth Central Station in the city’s downtown, authorities said.

The pedestrian was hit about 2:30 p.m. near the 1000 block of Jones Street and was under the train when police arrived.

The man was taken in critical condition to a trauma hospital, according to a spokesperson for MedStar, an emergency medical service agency.

The man appears to have been trying to grab onto a train when he was hit, a Fort Worth police spokesperson said.

Trinity Metro officials wrote in an email alert about 2:45 p.m. that a TEXRail train, TEXR943, would not continue service westbound to Fort Worth’s T&P Station due to police activity.

In an update shortly after 4 p.m., Trinity Metro said that police activity at the Central Station had concluded and normal TEXRail service would resume.
