‘We are open’: Restaurant on Fort Worth’s Northside carries on after car crashes into front
A beloved destination for tacos and menudo on Fort Worth’s Northside near the Stockyards is still open for business after a car crashed through the front of the restaurant early Saturday.
Maria Beltrán has been serving authentic Mexican food at La Abuela Regina, at 912 NW 25th St., since 2010. Now she and her family are carrying on in spite of the damage caused by the hit-and-run accident.
Photos and videos taken shortly after the crash show a black car halfway inside the restaurant. There’s a large opening in the wall, and broken boards are strewn around the car.
Beltrán’s daughter, Yuri Iracheta, told the Star-Telegram that the driver ran away from the scene. The crash occurred around 1:35 a.m. Saturday, March 8, when the restaurant was closed.
Fort Worth police officers responded to the hit-and-run. They learned the suspect was caught on video. He was dressed in all black clothing and last seen walking westbound on NW 25th Street, according to police. The suspect’s car was towed to the auto pound.
No arrests have been announced.
Customers can access the restaurant by a side entrance. The best way for the community to help is by continuing to come eat there, Iracheta said.
“A lot of people think we’re closed, but we are open,” Iracheta said in Spanish.
