The Fort Worth Police Department fired two officers on Thursday after Internal Affairs investigations but declined to say why the officers were under investigation.

Sgt. Kathryn Freix and Officer Ruben Gastelum were terminated following separate, unrelated administrative investigations, the department said in a news release on Jan. 23.

Freix and Gastelum were fired after the internal investigations determined that they violated multiple departmental policies, according to the statement.

Freix had been with the department for 23 years, and Gastelum had worked there for three years. Both were assigned to the Fleet Division at the time of their termination, the release states.

A police spokesperson did not answer questions Thursday about what policies the two officers were accused of violating.

“The Fort Worth Police Department exists to safeguard the lives and property of those we serve, and is committed to the highest standards of professionalism in doing so,” the release states. “In these cases, neither officer conducted themselves in a manner that represents the professionalism of our officers.”

Assistant Chief Robert Alldredge “concurred with the chain of command’s determinations for both investigations and terminated Sergeant Freix and Officer Gastelum’s employment with the department,” the release says.
