Bird flu has caused egg prices to skyrocket. Here’s where to find cheap eggs in Fort Worth
Within the last 30 days, 13.2 million American birds have been infected with the H5N1 bird flu virus, also known as bird flu, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This has caused a shortage of eggs and made egg carton prices skyrocket.
The Centers for Disease Control has confirmed that you cannot contract bird flu through properly cooked poultry or eggs. However, the egg shortage is due to severe illness and death in chickens. Egg cartons will likely not get any cheaper until the bird flu is under control.
Axios reports that a dozen large eggs in the Southeast and South Central region of the U.S. could be as pricey as $7. In the Midwest, they are at $6.95. Some retailers are limiting how many eggs consumers are allowed to buy in order to keep their shelves stocked.
Aldi CEO Jason Hart told Axios that his grocery chain is committed to keeping low prices. Walmart also told Axiosit will not enforce an egg limit.
