‘Multiple’ roaches temporarily close Tarrant County restaurant

One restaurant was temporarily closed during the Jan. 7-20 Tarrant County Public Health Inspections after “multiple small roaches” were found in the establishment, according to county data compiled by the Star-Telegram.

Kayce’s Grill and Restaurant at 314 N. Main St. in Keller, formerly Kaycees Cafe Grill and Bar, scored 17 demerits on Jan. 16. The inspector noted some cooked beef and chicken weren’t held at a safe temperature, and some prepared food products were kept beyond the seven-day limit.

The inspector also saw “multiple” small roaches crawling around the grill, on counters used to prepare food and in the serving and dishwashing areas. The restaurant voluntarily closed until the infestation could be dealt with. It was allowed to reopen Jan. 24.

No establishments failed inspection, but three received over 29 demerits. Restaurants that receive more than 29 demerits require a follow-up inspection.

Rice Xpress at 6036 Lake Worth Blvd. in Lake Worth scored 35 on Jan. 11. Cooked beef, chicken and shrimp weren’t held at a safe temperature, sauces were uncovered in the cooler, the hand sink had no hot water and no certified food manager was on site during the inspection.

Rice Xpress scored 3 on a Jan. 16 follow-up inspection.

Italianos Capriccios at 1004 Boyd Road in Azle scored 30 on Jan. 12. The coolers and walk-in refrigerator didn’t maintain food at the proper temperature. Black organic matter was found inside the ice machine and on the rim of the soda nozzles. The inspector noted the floors were severely damaged and the kitchen restroom had a hole in the wall.

The restaurant scored 11 during a Jan. 17 follow-up inspection.

Yummy Donuts at 7001 Confederate Park Road in Lakeside scored 30 on Jan. 11. The inspector saw sausage rolls with soiled trash bags on top, unlabeled chemical bottles and an open dumpster on the premises with trash and standing water nearby.

The establishment scored 16 on a Jan. 17 follow-up inspection.

Taqueria El Toro at 5130 Mansfield Highway in Forest Hill scored 29 on Jan. 11. The inspector found food debris inside both hand sinks, several dirty rags throughout the facility and a buildup of food debris on the floor and racks of the walk-in cooler.

O’Sheas Pub and Grill at 310 Grapevine Highway in Hurst scored 17, but the inspector found five live roaches in the food preparation area.

Roaches were also found at Royal Fried Chicken and Seafood, 209 Bedford Road in Bedford. At Viet Tofu, 4045 E. Belknap St. in Haltom City, a dozen live roaches were seen on the stove.

Tarrant County Public Health inspects all restaurants in Tarrant County except those located in Arlington, Euless, Fort Worth and North Richland Hills.
