President John F. Kennedy woke up on the last day of his life in Fort Worth’s Hotel Texas.
He stepped outside in the chilly rain to speak before an enthusiastic crowd of onlookers before delivering another speech inside at a chamber of commerce breakfast. Then, he and first lady Jackie Kennedy rode in a motorcade through downtown on the way to Carswell Air Force Base, where they’d fly to Dallas.
We all know what would happen there.
But that morning of Nov. 22, 1963, was a happy one in Fort Worth, as these Star-Telegram photos show. We’ve revisited these historic scenes to take photos of what they look like today. Use the slider to compare then and now.
