Both drivers were killed and a passenger was injured when a vehicle traveling the wrong way on Interstate 20 collided head on with another vehicle, Fort Worth police said.

The fatal crash was reported just before 3 a.m. Monday on I-20 east at Hulen Street, near Hulen Mall.

A vehicle traveling westbound on the eastbound side caused the accident, police said. Photos from the scene show a pickup truck was headed the wrong way and struck an SUV.

Both drivers were pronounced dead on scene. A passenger in the vehicle that was going the wrong way was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the names of the drivers once their next of kin have been notified.

Lanes of the interstate were closed for several hours and traffic was diverted to the service road. I-20 reopened shortly after 7 a.m.
