It’s going to be a damp Labor Day weekend across Fort Worth, with around a 30% chance of rain on Monday.

“It won’t be raining and storming all weekend, it’ll be off and on,” said Sarah Barnes, a meteorologist at the NWS Fort Worth office. “Some locations may see rain, some may not see anything at all. It’ll be hit or miss, but continued scattered showers and storms over the weekend.”

This late summer to fall period has been a wet one for North Texas. In August alone, the precipitation set or tied several National Weather Service records including the wettest month on record and the second-wettest period in 24 hours for Dallas-Fort Worth.

People can expect scattered storms and temperatures in the mid to high 80 degrees over the holiday weekend, Barnes said. The high on Friday will be 88 degrees with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Saturday will see the best chance for rain showers over the weekend with a 60% chance of storms, Barnes said. The rain chances will dwindle to 40% going into Sunday. Saturday’s high is expected to be 89 degrees, Sunday at 87 degrees and Monday will have a high near 86 degrees.

Part of what’s contributing to these rain chances this weekend and going into next week is a cool and unsettled weather pattern that is expected to linger for the next six to 10 days, according to NWS.

An upper level ridge system is sticking in the North Texas area and providing just enough of the right conditions to induce scattered rain activity over the weekend and into next week. The weather pattern isn’t much to fret over and is fairly common for the North Texas region, according to NWS.
