A truck driver who police believe had a medical problem crashed late Sunday on an Interstate 35W service road after driving the wrong way on the highway.

Firefighters had to extract the driver out of the cab of the truck after he wrecked the tractor-trailer.

No other injuries were reported.

Fort Worth patrol officers responded to a call of a wrong-way driver just after 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Garden Acres Drive.

Several witnesses called to report that the truck was traveling southbound on the northbound service road of Interstate 35W or the South Freeway and it had overturned in a median of about the 12000 block of the South Freeway.

When they arrived, officers located the overturned tractor-trailer. The driver was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital.

The trailer was fully loaded and three heavy-duty wreckers worked to transfer the contents to lighten the weight and allow the tractor-trailer to be righted and removed, police said.
