14-year Fort Worth police veteran fired for misconduct while on vacation, department says
A Fort Worth police officer, who was a 14-year veteran of the department, was fired after he shot a gun in a prohibited area while he was intoxicated and on vacation, the Fort Worth Police Department announced Wednesday. He also was accused of leaving the scene of an accident.
The incident occurred last year in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, a news release from the police department said.
In October, the FWPD Internal Affairs unit was notified that Corp. Marshall Meyer “while on vacation, had become involved in an incident involving intoxication off-duty, leaving the scene of an accident, and discharging a firearm where prohibited,” the release said.
Additional details about the incident weren’t immediately available. Fort Worth police referred questions to authorities in Arkansas, who couldn’t be reached for comment.
Meyer also could not be reached.
A police department spokesman told the Star-Telegram that Meyer worked in the Northwest Division.
While the investigation remained ongoing, Meyer was placed on restricted duty, “which involves the removal of all police powers, during the course of the administrative and criminal investigations,” the news release added.
The investigation concluded that Meyer’s off-duty conduct did not maintain the agency’s “high standard … and unjustly reflects upon the rest of our officers,” the police department said.
Meyer was terminated Wednesday.
