Severe thunderstorms expected in Dallas-Fort Worth with hail, strong winds

Thunderstorms are expected in Dallas-Fort Worth late Monday with the possibility of hail and strong wind gusts, according to the National Weather Service.

Isolated showers will likely move into the area in late afternoon, said meteorologist Bianca Garcia with the National Weather Service of Fort Worth, and storms will develop in the evening as a cold front moves in from the west. The storms are expected to begin at about 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. and should move out of DFW by 10 p.m.

Some storms may be severe, and the main threats are large hail and strong winds up to 20 mph. The lowest threat is the possibility of a tornado, Garcia said, which is not likely but cannot be ruled out.

The high winds may continue overnight, but Tuesday should be rain free with a high of 69 degrees. The breezy weather may continue with winds up to 15 mph Tuesday morning, but should calm Tuesday afternoon.
