The site of Fort Worth’s iconic Stonegate Mansion will get new life after the Fort Worth City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a zoning change.

The change will allow developer and co-owner of the property, Kyle Poulson, to build a townhouse complex on the site. A city zoning staff report said Poulson plans to build 30 single-family homes.

It’s located at 4100 Stonegate Blvd. and sits just east of Hulen Street near TCU.

District 3 council member Michael Crain praised the developers for working with the neighborhood to find the best use for the iconic mansion.

Crain referenced the mansion’s previous uses as a Tex-Mex restaurant and a wedding venue, saying neither worked for the neighborhood. He said the planned townhomes will transform the mansion into a community.

The mansion, built by millionaire oilman Cullen Davis, was the site of two unsolved murders on Aug. 2, 1976. Police and witnesses said an unknown intruder killed Stan Farr, 30, the lover of Davis’ estranged wife, Priscilla, and Andrea Wilborn, 12, Davis’ stepdaughter.

The intruder also shot Priscilla and visitor Gus “Bubba” Gavrel, although both survived.

Demolition of the old mansion began at the end of 2021.
