Man critically injured, dog killed in Fort Worth house fire, fire department officials say

A man was in critical condition Tuesday after firefighters rescued him out of a burning home in north Fort Worth, a fire department official said.

A dog died in the blaze, fire officials reported.

Firefighters found the man early Tuesday in the back of the home in the 2800 block of Northwest 24th Street.

Firefighters went to the scene just before 12:15 a.m. Tuesday after noticing heavy smoke near a fire station.

Firefighters arrived and found heavy fire in the front of the home.

As they began working the blaze, firefighters were advised that a man could be inside of the residence. Firefighters went to the back of the home, entered through a window after taking down burglar bars and found the man.

Firefighters battled the fire for about 30 minutes before it was extinguished.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
