Take your time! North Texas streets, highways are wet. And it’s chilly out there
It’s going to be messy, rainy and chilly on Wednesday as a cold front pushes its way through North Texas.
Wednesday morning commuters faced wet streets and highways after showers and isolated thunderstorms dropped rainfall all night.
The potential for traffic accidents on wet roads will continue all over North Texas.
That’s something borne out by MedStar statistics. On Tuesday with some showers and thunderstorms in the area, ambulance crews responded to 61 traffic crashes — that’s compared to 44 wrecks last Tuesday when it was dry.
Severe weather is not in the forecast, but forecasters said there could be some lightning strikes from some thunderstorms.
Rainfall totals will range from about an inch along the Red River to more than two inches in Central Texas by Thursday afternoon, when the rain should end, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
“It’s going to be a soggy day,” said meteorologist Eric Martello with the NWS in Fort Worth on Wednesday.
And it will feel cold Wednesday with temperatures in the 40s and 50s Wednesday morning. The high on Wednesday may only reach 50.
Thursday morning lows should be in the mid-40s for North Texans.
For the rest of the week, overnight temperatures will be cool for this time of the year, but daytime temperatures will steadily warm through the upcoming weekend, according to the NWS in Fort Worth.
There’s lots of sunshine in the forecast for the weekend.
