Child critically injured in Fort Worth apartment fire, taken to local hospital

Fort Worth firefighters pulled a 3-year-old girl from a burning apartment Monday afternoon, according to authorities.

The girl was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition, said Matt Zavadsky, MedStar spokesman.

An adult injured because of the fire was treated and released at the scene, Zavadsky said.

This was a one-alarm apartment fire that occurred just before 2 p.m. in the 9000 block of Brian Way Circle in west Fort Worth, according to the fire department call log.

There was quite a bit of damage to the apartment building which is still being assessed, said Mike Drivdahl, Fort Worth Fire Department spokesman.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Drivdahl said.

Heavy smoke was reported on the second floor.

Firefighters reported the fire was under control in less than an hour.
