A 9-year-old boy from Edgecliff Village died Saturday night in a hospital, days after being injured in a car accident in Fort Worth.

Police said they responded to the single-car crash shortly after 2:50 a.m. July 21. Police said the driver lost control of the car and drove off the exit ramp from Interstate 20 westbound onto Southwest Loop 820. The vehicle went into a ditch and struck a pillar, police said.

Police said there are no charges pending.

The 9-year-old was transported to Cook Children’s Medical Center, where he died Saturday at around 9:40 a.m. in the pediatric intensive care unit, according to the medical examiner’s website.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office lists the cause of death as accidental blunt-force trauma of the head.
