Store video captures customer’s early-morning attack on owner of Fort Worth doughnut shop

The 61-year-old owner of a Fort Worth doughnut shop was smacked in the head by a customer who yelled, “you are not going to overcharge me!” during a Thursday morning attack, according to Fort Worth police and the owner’s family members.

Video from a surveillance camera that captured the assault at Sunshine Donuts was released by a family member Friday.

The suspect, who the family described to police as a frequent customer, might live a nearby apartment complex, according to a police call log.

In addition to the assault, the customer is accused of vandalizing three vehicles parked in the front of the shop at 5650 Meadowbrook Drive, using a knife to puncture tires and using a trash can lid to damage the vehicles. The vehicles belonged to the family of the shop owner.

“I don’t know what my mother could have done or said that made her (the customer) do it,” Steve Park, the son of the shop owner, said in a telephone interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Fort Worth police responded to the assault shortly after 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

A woman who appeared upset entered the shop, according to reports. The owner recognized the suspect because she had visited with her mother on previous days.

The woman grabbed a sausage roll from a counter and ate it without paying for it, reports said. The store video shows the owner turning her back to prepare an order when the suspect smacks her on the back of the head and pulls off her hair net.

A witness told police he heard the suspect tell the owner, “I don’t care if I am a crack head, you are not going to overcharge me!”

Fort Worth police said the woman might have been under the influence of a drug.
