Third death in one week being investigated at Tarrant County Jail, state says

State officials said they are investigating after a death was reported at the Tarrant County Jail on Thursday.

This is the third death of a detainee at the jail within one week.

The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office said an inmate had an unknown medical emergency and then was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he died.

He was identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner as 40-year-old Abdullahi Mohamed.

The Texas State Commission on Jail Standards is investigating, as they do with every in-custody death at Texas jails.

Jason Glendon Martin, 40, died at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office reported.

The cause of death is listed as pending.

The sheriff’s office said Wednesday afternoon that just after 10 p.m., the man “experienced an unknown medical emergency and collapsed while walking through a housing pod.”

Javonte Myers, 28, died on June 19. The sheriff’s office said his death was due to natural causes. His autopsy is pending.
