Fort Worth police search for driver in hit-and-run that killed boy playing in street
For the second time in as many months, Fort Worth police asked for help Wednesday to find an SUV that struck and killed a boy in March.
The boy, 7-year-old Nelson Morales, and his cousins were playing tag when he ran out onto Wichita Street and was hit by an SUV in the crosswalk on the night of March 3.
The SUV never stopped.
Fort Worth police have no leads on the vehicle or driver involved in the fatal accident.
“I don’t think they (the driver) saw the kids. It was dark,” said neighbor Jasmen Craddock, who was driving by when the accident happened. She talked to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram the day after the fatal accident. “I don’t know what happened. I just heard it and it was bad.”
Craddock pulled over.
“It was just little kids, and they looked like they were in shock,” Craddock said. “They didn’t know what to do. I asked what happened, and they said a kid got run over.”
Fort Worth police believe the vehicle is a silver or gray Toyota SUV.
Last month, Fort Worth police also appealed for help to find the vehicle and driver involved in the fatal accident which killed the Oaklawn Elementary student.
Patrol officers responded to the automobile-pedestrian accident shortly before 10:30 p.m. on March 3 in the 3600 block of Wichita Street
Cristian .Rivas, Morales’ older brother, told the Star-Telegram in March that his family wouldn’t let Nelson out to play too often because drivers were not cautious.
“I understand it was an accident,” he said. “But they could have least stopped and helped.”
Anyone with information should call Fort Worth police at 817-392-4869.
