Dog euthanized after mauling, killing Fort Worth woman in her home
A pit bull who mauled and killed a 60-year-old woman in her Fort Worth home was euthanized on Monday, a city official said Tuesday.
The dog had been in the custody of animal control officials for more than two weeks and was evaluated before it was euthanized, said city spokeswoman Diane Covey on Tuesday.
The dog attack occurred March 28 at a south Fort Worth home, and the woman died Sunday night from the injuries she suffered.
No other injuries were reported.
The woman was identified as Sharon Rene Baldwin, 60, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The medical examiner’s office listed her death as “mauling by canine.”
She was pronounced dead at 10:33 p.m. Sunday at John Peter Smith Hospital.
The attack occurred in Baldwin’s south Fort Worth home, officials said
A man who stayed at Baldwin’s home told animal control officials that he had found the stray dog several days before the attack.
The dog had been staying inside of the home without any problems while the man searched for the dog’s owner, city officials said.
At some point on March 28, Baldwin either rolled over the dog in her wheelchair or fall on the canine, prompting the dog to attack her, authorities said.
Baldwin suffered bites to her arm, shoulder and neck.
