Woman found dead in ditch after attack by three ‘vicious’ dogs, Texas police say

A woman in Texas is dead and another is injured after they were attacked by three dogs early Saturday morning, police say.

Houston police received a call around 5:48 a.m. from a man who said his wife was being attacked by dogs, KHOU reported.

Not long after, police received another call — this time from the dogs’ owner — who said his dogs had attacked another woman who was lying in a ditch in front of his house, according to the outlet.

When police arrived, they found the woman dead with a number of bite marks all over her body, KTRK reported.

The other woman was “severely injured” and taken to an area hospital, Houston police said in a Twitter post. She’s in stable condition, according to KTRK.

It hasn’t been reported whether the women knew each other, and police have not released their identities.

Police described the three dogs as pit bulls, the Houston Chronicle reported. They were ultimately contained and taken to a local animal shelter, according to KHOU.

Neighbors told police that the dogs were known to be “vicious,” KTRK reported.

Per city ordinance, dogs are required to be either contained or on leashes; the owner could face negligent manslaughter charges, according to the Houston Chronicle.
