Jury trials in Tarrant County suspended for a month because of COVID-19
In an attempt to stop the spread of COVID-19 and lessen the amount of times the general public must gather, some Dallas-Fort Worth court systems are postponing hearings.
There will be no new jury trials in Tarrant County courts until April 20.
The decision affects criminal district courts, county criminal courts, county courts at law, civil, family, probate courts, and justice of the peace courts.
Tarrant County Jury Services is canceled until April 17.
Tom Wilder, the county’s district clerk, said his office will remain open and is able to handle any case filings.
Fort Worth Municipal Court is rescheduling all defendants, jurors and witnesses set for a hearing or trial from March 16-April 3. Court locations will remain open to the public during regular business hours. Defendants, jurors and witnesses will receive a written notice advising them of the new date, time and location of the hearing, trial or jury service.
In Dallas County, all civil and justice of the peace jury trials are postponed until April 13, the Dallas Morning News reported.
Municipal Court in-person proceedings in Denton County will also be temporarily suspended, the city announced on Friday.
All non-essential court cases in Collin County have been postponed until April 1.
