2 Fort Worth police cars promoting recruitment, driver safety shot at several times
Fort Worth officers this week discovered two police cars that had been staged around the city to promote recruitment efforts had been shot at several times, the department said.
One photo provided by police shows the back windshield of a police car riddled with about six bullet holes. Another shows a cluster of about 15 bullet holes above the front tire on the driver side.
One of the cars was staged off of the South Freeway, police said on Saturday, and the other was staged near Miller Avenue and Eastland Street. No suspects had been identified as of Saturday.
The department had not only placed the cars around the city to promote a recruiting campaign but to promote driver safety, police said in a news release.
“This type of hostility toward policing can serve to make our officers more wary, guarded and less apt to let their guard down and engage with the community,” Chief Ed Kraus said in the release. “It is detrimental toward our recruitment and community policing efforts.”
Police made the discovery on Tuesday.
An investigation into the incident is underway.
