Missing children found safe by Dallas police; mother discovered dead in apartment

Two missing Dallas children were found alive Monday morning just hours after an Amber Alert had been issued for them and their mother was found dead in an apartment, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety and Dallas police.

The boys were found about 9:30 a.m. by a Dallas SWAT team at an apartment complex on Abrams Road.

Police said the boys were taken by their father, Johnnie Ray Palmore, 33, who shot himself in the head when SWAT officers responded to the Abrams Road apartments. Palmore was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The alert had been issued shortly after Dallas police found the children’s mother, Latiffiney Rodgers, dead in another Dallas apartment.

Jorden Rodgers, 7, and Julien Rogers, 1, had last been seen Sunday night in the 8000 block of Ferguson Road in Dallas, the DPS reported when the Amber Alert was issued.

Dallas police responded about 7:45 p.m. Sunday to a welfare concern at an apartment on Ferguson Road. Officers made entry and found Latiffiney Rodgers, 26, dead in the apartment from “homicidal violence.” Dallas police did not provide any details on how she was killed.
