Witness draws gun to foil attempted carjacking of 68-year-old woman at Fort Worth mall

An attempted carjacking of a woman was thwarted outside of the Hulen Mall on Tuesday when a witness drew a gun on the two men carrying out the attack, police said.

Police are searching for the suspects, who were captured walking together in a grainy surveillance video. They’re described as two black men between the ages of 20 and 25.

The woman, a 68-year-old from Denton, was returning to her car a little after noon Tuesday in the parking lot near Macy’s when the two suspects pulled her from her BMW. She reportedly tried to fight off the men and one of them punched her in the face.

They tried to steal the car, police said, but couldn’t get it to go into drive because the woman had the key fob in her pocket.

They took her purse, but a witness drew a gun on them, leading them to drop it, police said. They didn’t get away with any property.

The woman was treated by medics at the scene and released.
