Texas artist Bob ‘Daddy-O’ Wade, who sculpted Fort Worth Zoo iguana, is dead at 76
Bob “Daddy-O” Wade, a Texas artist who sculpted a colossal iguana that sat on the roof of a New York cafe and, for the last nine years, has been displayed at the Fort Worth Zoo, has died. He was 76.
Wade died on Monday at his Austin home of heart failure, the Austin American-Statesman reported.
The 40-foot sculpture made of wire mesh and polyurethane foam known as Iggy was atop the Lone Star Cafe in New York for about a decade. In June 2010, it settled on top of the Fort Worth Zoo’s hospital. It weighs 2,600 pounds.
Wade’s other works include 40-foot-tall boots in San Antonio, a 7-foot saxophone in Houston and giant frogs at Carl’s Corner on Interstate 35, the American-Statesman reported.
Wade studied at the University of Texas and the University of California at Berkeley.
He sold silk-screen prints, sketches, posters and sculptures.
