Near Arlington, crowds mob a popular restaurant’s Christmas light show

Besieged after worldwide publicity for its 200,000 Christmas lights, Campo Verde Mexican Restaurant is closing early some days and has posted a desperate message on Facebook.

“We have cooked our little hearts and hands off, but the crowds have been more than overwhelming,” the restaurant posted on Facebook at midafternoon Monday.

“REMEMBER WE KEEP THE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS UP UNTIL MARCH!!!”

For 40 years, Campo Verde has celebrated Christmas by covering almost every inch of the restaurant in lights, tinsel and Santas, with a toy train circling above diners.

It’s always been an Arlington tradition. But this year, TV coverage spread and Campo Verde wound up on national food blogs and in British newspapers

Campo Verde expected to open at 11 a.m. Tuesday (Christmas Eve) and serve lunch.

On Monday, the line at 11 a.m. stretched across the parking lot and filled the restaurant within minutes.

The restaurant is decorated for Christmas from November through February.

Campo Verde is open daily for lunch and dinner (except Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day) at 2918 W. Pioneer Parkway (Spur 303). It’s between Fort Worth and Arlington near Bowen Road, about 3 miles north of Interstate 20; 817-275-7003, campoverde.us.
