One killed, one critically wounded in Woodhaven shooting, police say
Detectives with the Fort Worth Police Department were investigating a homicide on the east side of the city Tuesday afternoon.
Police were called to the 800 block of Havenwood Lane South just after 1 p.m. regarding a shooting.
No other details have been released, but Officer Jimmy Pollozani confirmed that two people were shot and one person was found dead. The other person was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
The shooting happened in the Woodhaven neighborhood near the Woodhaven Country Club Golf Course.
Judy Sikes, who lives next to the house where police were called, said her husband called her just before 2 p.m. and said something tragic happened — her neighbor’s husband left in an ambulance and police said a woman was dead.
“This is something I never would have expected from the two of them,” Sikes said.
She has lived in the neighborhood for almost two decades and said she was good friends with her neighbor, who she said would have “given her the shirt off her back.”
“They were wonderful, funny and happy,” she said. “They were the best people you could ask to be neighbors or friends with.”
Sikes said the woman recently had shoulder surgery and had been in a lot of pain, but seemed OK.
“We’re all so close in our little neighborhood,” Sikes said.
The identities of the husband and wife have not been officially released.
At 4 p.m., a few neighbors were still standing on driveways or porches as officers talked in front of the house.
Crime scene tape blocked off part of the road and an officer stood by to let cars go in and out.
