Woman found shot to death in west Parker County, Austin man arrested, sheriff says

An Austin man was in custody Wednesday, accused of shooting to death a woman on an Interstate 20 access road in west Parker County, the sheriff said Wednesday.

The suspect has been identified as Stephen J. Martinez, 32, of Austin, according to Parker County jail records. He faces a charge of murder.

The woman has been identified as Michelle Davis, 24, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website on Thursday. She died from gunshot wounds and her death has been ruled a homicide. Authorities believe the woman also was from the Austin area

“A guy called in to dispatch and said he had shot someone,” Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said in a Wednesday telephone interview.

Deputies with the Parker County Sheriff’s Office and a trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the 11,000 block of Interstate 20 access road just before 5 p.m. Tuesday in west Parker County

A man later identified as Martinez was standing near a pickup when authorities arrived.. He was taken into custody.

Deputies then discovered a woman who appeared to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the woman was Martinez’s girlfriend.

Deputies have not commented on a motive for the shooting.

Martinez was in the Parker County Jail Wednesday without bail.
