Small plane crashes near Fort Worth park, injuring couple
A small airplane carrying two people crashed near Fort Worth’s Gateway Ball Park on Sunday afternoon, according to authorities.
The crash was reported at 4:38 p.m. in the 800 block of Beach Street — near the West Fork of the Trinity River and Gateway Park Drive.
The plane — a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza — was down near the Trinity River in a vacant area, according to a police report and the Federal Aviation Administration.
An official with the Fort Worth Fire Department said the two people — a man and a woman in their 50s — were aboard the aircraft when it came down.
The man, who piloted the plane, was walking around when emergency crews arrived. The woman has serious injuries.
The pilot reported a loss of engine power before crashing, according to FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford.
The pair were leaving Meacham Airport. It’s unknown where they were attempting to go. According to FAA records, the plane is registered in Tennessee, but the pilot’s airline transport pilot certificate updated earlier this month lists an Arlington address.
