A Fort Worth husband and wife were killed Sunday morning as they attempted to drive into the parking lot of Grace Lutheran Church in south Fort Worth.

A candlelight vigil was scheduled Monday for a couple killed in a traffic accident as they attempted to turn into the parking lot of their church.

The victims have been identified as Thomas and Lorena Jordan, who were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website.

The vigil was scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, 7900 McCart Ave.

“So many times you hear of accidents that happened so far away,” Rev. Don Strickland said in a telephone interview Monday. “But this happened right in front of the church. Several church members were standing outside when it happened.”

The Jordans were headed to a church service at the time.

“Their deaths have left us shocked and mournful,” the church said in a statement afterward. “They were beloved pillars of our faith community.”

The wreck happened around 9:30 a.m. Sunday at 3500 Columbus Trail, police said.

Another car had T-boned the car occupied by the Jordans, according to a preliminary police report.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the hospital with injuries that aren’t considered life-threatening, police said.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

In October, 22-year-old Keenan Hilsabeck was killed in a wreck at the same intersection. Police say his vehicle was hit by another car that had been racing along the street at about 4 a.m.
