Ghostbusters spotted during high-speed police chase in Fort Worth
If you had cued up the theme music from "Ghostbusters" for a few seconds during a serious high-speed police chase involving a suspect in a stolen vehicle and the Fort Worth Police Department on Monday evening, you'd have been on point.
Fort Worth police posted a photo on their Facebook page Tuesday morning taken from TV helicopter video showing a white four-door SUV with a red-and-black Ghostbusters logo printed on the driver's side door and a caption saying, "Who you gonna call?"
It was a nod to the 1984 cult-classic film "Ghostbusters," which followed three former parapsychology professors who decided to set up shop as a unique ghost removal service.
Turns out the Dallas-Fort Worth area is home to a real team of ghost-hunters called the DFW Ghostbusters.
We weren't the only ones surprised. The ghost-busting team was shocked to see their vehicle on TV as well, according to Cody Glenn, a public relations officer for the company.
"You can imagine my surprise when I looked up yesterday and saw a member of our team on live television during a police chase," said Glenn. "The Ectomobile in question is just one of several that we have in an expanding fleet of vehicles. That particular vehicle belongs to Dave McDonough."
Glenn said that McDonough was getting onto Interstate 20 headed eastbound around Wheatland when the suspect in the stolen vehicle surprised him and acted as though he was going to cut him off.
"When he saw Fort Worth PD coming in behind him with their lights on, he did what he could to stay out of the way – after all, the living really isn't our jurisdiction," said Glenn.
The suspect was later identified as 31-year-old Zachary Medina of Fort Worth. Police reported that the SUV he was in was reported stolen Monday morning by a family member. Police said Medina failed to yield during an attempted traffic stop that evening and the pursuit began in the area of I-20 and Crowley Road.
He eventually pulled his vehicle onto the median while headed southbound on I-35E in Ellis County. He jumped out and attempted to run from officers before he stopped and was taken into custody.
