Mega listing: Texas Rangers co-owner's son puts mansion on market; take a peek inside
Bob Simpson, the co-chairman of the Texas Rangers, listed his Montserrat mega-mansion last year, for sale at $7 million.
If you can't afford that home in the west Fort Worth gated community, maybe you can take a shot at his son's home.
It's listed at $4.49 million, and it's just down the block from Dad's place.
David and Amie Simpson own 4657 Benavente Court, according to the Tarrant Appraisal District, and according to records, David is Bob's son. If David's home, which is listed by John Zimmerman for Briggs Freeman, doesn't sell before Feb. 21, it will go to auction and could sell for less than the asking price.
But the upside of the auction is that the home will sell that day, rather than sit on the market, like Bob's castle at 9553 Bella Terra Drive has for most of a year.
"You've got this big property — this high-ticket item," Zimmerman said. "And there are a limited number of local buyers who are in the market for something that's $4.49 million. The allure to the auction is that [auctioneer] Concierge brings a large group of qualified buyers, be they foreign investors or local folks."
Zimmerman said he's listed two local homes that went to this kind of auction, and both went to buyers from Texas.
The home on Benavente has all the bells and whistles those kinds of buyers have come to expect. An 8-foot stone fence encircles the home, which sits on 2-plus acres and includes a 10-car garage, a batting cage, tennis and basketball courts, as well as a putting green.
The 9,998-square-foot behemoth was built in 2009 and features seven bedrooms, seven full baths and a double-sided fireplace in the master bedroom.
Multilevel pool? Check.
Outdoor kitchen outfitted with a smoker, kegerator and a fridge, plus a palapa? Check, check, check and check.
Plus, "Montserrat is very popular right now, and inventory is pretty low," Zimmerman said.
The Simpson family is looking to unload some of what's left.
