Snow and sleet possible with winter weather advisory issued for North Texas
Get ready for a taste of winter Thursday afternoon as a strong cold front brings a chance of snow and sleet and cold. gusty winds.
A winter weather advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. for parts of North Texas, including Tarrant, Dallas, Denton, Collin, Parker and Wise counties.
The Weather Service said there’s a 50 percent chance of snow or sleet and that “minor accumulations are possible from the Dallas-Fort Worth area northward to the Red River.” Most areas will see less than an inch but some isolated areas north of DFW could see up to 2 inches.
North of DFW, there could be some slipper road conditions as temperatures plummet close to freezing. In the DFW area, temperatures should stay above freezing through rush hour. By the time it drops below freezing in the Metroplex, the precipitation should be over but wind chills will drop into the upper teens and lower 20s.
“The whole thing is going to move pretty quick,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Patricia Sanchez. “We will be looking at the models this morning to see if we need to make any updates in the forecast.”
Temperatures will drop to 26 by Friday morning. Temperatures will stay cooler through the weekend with the coldest day being Saturday with a high near 40 and a low Sunday morning near 25.
