They were headed to night service when tragedy struck. Now their church family mourns
The Quan family was on their way to a Sunday night church service when the mother and daughter were killed, leaving their church family to mourn at a prayer vigil Wednesday.
Lori Quan, 36, and her daughter Hannah, 7, were killed when a Ford F-150 pickup rear-ended the passenger van the family of four was taking to Cana Baptist Church. The van was pushed into oncoming traffic along the 2300 block of Renfro Street and struck again by a Ford Ranger pickup.
According to a series of posts on the church's Facebook page, Keith Quan, Hannah's father and Lori's husband, was "in stable but critical condition" late Tuesday afternoon.
"He shows some early signs of improvement," the post, written by Pastor Kevin Jordan, continued. A previous post said the family's youngest daughter — and the van's fourth passenger — was "physically well." She is 3 years old, WFAA reported.
Now, the family, and their church family at Cana Baptist Church are also looking for some measure of spiritual healing. A prayer vigil will be Wednesday for the Quan family at 6:30 p.m. at the church.
"We mourn their deaths, but we do not mourn as those without hope," Jordan said on the church's Facebook page.
Texas Highway Patrol Staff Sergeant Dub Gillum said charges with the Johnson County District Attorney's office are pending against Andrew Smith, 30, of Burleson, the driver of the F-150, but none have been filed yet. Smith could face criminal negligent homicide charges if his "inattention" at the wheel is found to be the key factor in the crash.
