A baby abducted during a domestic dispute was safe Wednesday morning, thanks to two Fort Worth women, police said.

David Alan Derleth, 29, who is accused of taking the child from her mother late Tuesday, drove to a Fort Worth home, where a woman and her mother confronted him about the baby, police said.

“They somehow took the baby away from him and drove to a Fort Worth police sub-station,” said Lake Worth Police Chief Corry Blount. “The suspect drove away from that Fort Worth home.”

Derleth was in the Lake Worth jail Wednesday afternoon, where he faces charges of kidnapping, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and possession of a controlled substance. Police said they believe he was in possession of methamphetamine.

Aryana Creech, 6 months, was with her mother and the suspect in a vehicle near North Loop 820 and Azle Avenue when the two adults had an argument about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.

“He made a motion as if he was going to strike [the mother] and she got out of the vehicle,” Blount said Wednesday in a telephone interview. “He drove off and the child was still in the vehicle.”

Derleth, who police said is not Aryana’s father, drove off in the white 2013 Nissan Rogue, which was owned by the woman’s mother.

An Amber Alert was issued at 1:45 a.m.

“[Aryana’s mother’s] cell phone was still in the vehicle, but he turned it off at some point,” Blount said.

At 3 a.m., police reported the vehicle stolen.

The child was taken to the sub-station at about 5 a.m. Wednesday. Fort Worth police stopped Derleth shortly before 5:30 a.m. and arrested him.

The child was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth and was reported in good condition, police said.

Derleth also had a felony drug warrant out of Tarrant County.
