Texas Christian University announced on Wednesday a $3 million donation from the Bezos Family Foundation for a new endowed fund that will expand the College of Education’s research initiatives.

University officials said the investment fuels “the science of learning while bolstering faculty-led research and community-engaged projects that address critical education issues.” The endowment expands the work of the college’s existing centers and institutes, including the Center for Public Education & Community Engagement, the Andrews Institute for Research in Mathematics & Science Education and the Alice Neeley Special Education Research and Service (ANSERS) Institute.

The ANSERS Institute works with TCU’s laboratory schools: the StarPoint School, which serves children with learning disabilities, and the KinderFrogs School, which serves children with Down syndrome and other developmental delays.

“This investment expands what’s possible for our faculty, our students and the communities we serve,” TCU Chancellor Daniel Pullin said. “The Bezos Family Foundation’s support strengthens our mission to prepare leaders who will shape classrooms and learning systems for decades to come. It accelerates the high-impact research and innovation that define TCU’s academic experience and the College of Education’s mission to advance the future of education.”

The endowment was created in honor of the education college’s 100th anniversary, according to university officials. It’s the third financial gift from the Bezos Family Foundation, building on its previous investments into the college’s early childhood education initiatives. The foundation dedicated $3 million to create the Bezos Family Foundation Endowed Chair for Early Childhood Education and $2 million to create a scholarship program for KinderFrogs School families.

Frank Hernandez, dean of the College of Education, said the endowment helps position TCU toward its goal of becoming an R1 university by 2035, the highest research designation that can be awarded to an institution.

“We’re deeply grateful for this extraordinary support. It’s more than a financial gift — it’s a vote of confidence in our mission and in the impact our faculty and students are making every day,” Hernandez said. “With this endowment, we’ll continue to invest in the research, innovation and partnerships that define a great college education. As TCU moves toward R1, this funding helps ensure we’re not only expanding knowledge, but preparing the next generation of educational leaders to do the same.”

The Bezos Family Foundation hopes other philanthropic organizations come forward to contribute to the fund.

“Our partnership with TCU’s College of Education is a long-term investment in faculty-led and community-driven research that fuels innovation, strengthens faculty excellence and the student experience, and helps shape the future of learning on a national scale,” said Jody Rosentswieg, managing director of strategic initiatives at the Bezos Family Foundation.
