Fort Worth police received a report about a missing student at an elementary school on Wednesday afternoon and were able to bring the child back, officials said.

The 6-year-old boy left the Luella Merrett Elementary campus during a physical education class around 1:15 p.m., according to police and school officials.

The principal at the Fort Worth ISD school sent out a message to all parents confirming that the staff took immediate action and a Fort Worth police officer returned the child to class.

“Safety is the top priority on our campus, and it is our commitment to communicate with you when a situation impacting our students and staff takes place in our school,” the message stated.
