TCU, which has 36 active COVID-19 cases, offering free tests for students, employees
TCU is offering free coronavirus tests for students and employees starting next week.
The school currently has 36 active cases of coronavirus, including six with direct on-campus impact and 30 with indirect impact. Direct impact is characterized as an individual being on TCU’s campus within two days of symptom onset or receiving a positive test.
Of the six direct impact cases, three are students, two are contractors and one is an employee. Of the 30 indirect cases, 29 are students and one is an employee. An email TCU sent shared on social media by a professor said most of the students who contracted the virus did so at the same social event.
The school announced its voluntary testing plans on Friday afternoon, saying it partnered with the Texas Division of Emergency Management and Tarrant County Public Health to conduct the tests. A school spokesperson said the testing site is open to the public as well.
“The testing site is just one of TCU’s proactive measures to help keep our students, faculty and staff healthy,” the spokesperson said.
Tests will be conducted starting Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and then Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dee J. Kelly Alumni Center (2820 Stadium Drive) on campus.
“Participants need not be symptomatic to receive testing, although they will be asked to report symptoms when registering online,” the school said. “Testing is free and insurance is not required. Once registered online, participants will receive a call back from testing administrators to confirm their testing date and time.”
Participants must wear a face covering at the test site. Results are expected to be available two to four days afterward.
TCU welcomed back its football players this week for voluntary workouts. Every player has undergone COVID-19 tests, however the school is not releasing those results.
The football players are among a handful of students who are on campus. Most are off campus as TCU is conducting online-only classes for the summer sessions. In-person classes are expected to resume in the fall with a start date Aug. 17, a week earlier than expected.
TCU will end in-person classes after the Thanksgiving holiday.
